🟡 Unity now includes verified support for Web3
Unity, the leading platform for creating interactive 3D content, has added top Web3 companies to its Verified Solutions Program for the first time ever. Among other things, this includes a library that helps developers connect with a MetaMask Wallet client, and support for integrating Solana-based NFTs, tokens, and on-chain programs in their games. To celebrate this moment, Metamask released a short trailer in collaboration with Unity.
With Unity's support, Web3 gaming can reach new markets of players and developers, accelerating the adoption of blockchain-based gaming and paving the way for rapid growth of this innovative technology.
🟡 The largest NFT dump ever
Imagine selling 1,000 NFT in less than 48 hours. What? You can’t? Me neither. I don’t even own 1,000 NFTs lol. But that’s exactly what Machi Big Brother did the other day.
Why would anyone suddenly dump that many NFTs? No one truly knows, but there are a couple of possible explanations.
Since he’s bought back many of these NFTs, the most likely explanation is that he’s just farming Blur tokens. But he could also be trying to manipulate the market and cause panic selling, allowing him to buy them back at a lower price. Whales doing whale things I guess.
🟡 Coinbase is launching its own blockchain
Coinbase just announced the testnet launch of Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network offering a secure, low-cost, developer-friendly way for anyone, anywhere, to build decentralized apps or “dapps” on-chain. Their goal with Base is to make on-chain the next online and onboard 1B+ users into the crypto economy. In pursuit of this goal, Base will serve as both a home for Coinbase’s on-chain products and an open ecosystem where anyone can build.
🟡 Spotify starts testing NFT-enabled playlists
Spotify is expanding its Web3 efforts by testing token-enabled playlists in key markets. The music streaming platform has partnered with the Overlord gaming ecosystem to offer community-curated playlists that can be accessed via Web3 wallets of those who hold the Creepz NFTs on Spotify. Android users from the US, UK, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand can unlock the playlists.
Other communities, such as Fluf, Moonbirds, and Kingship metaverse, are also participating in the three-month pilot program.
In May 2022, Spotify began testing NFT galleries on musicians' profiles, allowing users to preview the artists' NFTs and be redirected to the OpenSea page to purchase the items. The music market is one of the most exciting areas of crypto adoption. For instance, Fountain, a value-for-value podcasting platform, partnered with Zebedee to enable Bitcoin micropayments for podcast listeners, while Rhianna's hit 2015 song, "Bitch Better Have My Money," royalty rights were offered as part of a collection of 300 NFTs.
🔵 Solana goes down
Last weekend, Solana experienced a major technical issue that caused the network to slow down significantly and effectively freeze all on-chain activity. The blockchain started "forking", creating conflicting versions of its transaction history, which caused validators' RAM to increase while the chain's transaction throughput fell sharply.
Validators and network engineers suspect that the incident was caused by a bug in the new version of Solana code that had come online hours before, but the exact cause of the issue is still unknown. Despite efforts to fix the problem by downgrading to the previous version of the software, the issue persisted, and the decision was made to restart the chain to the point immediately prior to the forking. This was a drastic solution as it meant that the chain would be offline completely.
After 20 hours, all validators finally agreed to the restart and the blockchain is now running again.
🔵 Magic Eden partners with Polkastarter
Magic Eden, Solana’s leading marketplace, just announced that they would be partnering with Polkastarter to offer Web3 games launching with them custom videos, AMAs, reviews and Twitch streams
🟢 MonkeDAO’s collection design update
After listening to artists and community feedback, MonkeDAO released some updates on the art for their new collection, which will be called “Monkes”.
If you don’t know that MonkeDAO is launching its own NFT collection, I don’t even know what are you doing at this point. Go read about it in last week’s edition.
The older design for the eyes looked too lifeless at full size due to their large, undetailed surface area, so they all now have Kawaii ones. The new tail is shorter and has been given more space for better silhouette recognizability. And there has been an improvement in color and outlines, making each Monke skin warmer and fur more vibrant.
Enough about the art. What’s going on with the war between MonkeDAO and HadesDAO for ownership over SMB?
Well, we are starting to see big names speaking out
In a recent tweet, Sol Big Brain shared his view on the state of SMB. He’s definitely not happy representing his monke, after accruing value to a dev team that did very little, and sold out the project to a slightly higher bid knowing MonkeDAO was working hard on a deal. Maybe it’s time for a PFP change? He’s not happy with how the ownership is now under $HADES either.
However, HGE did quote his tweet, stating that MonkeDAO could initiate a vote to sell the project, even at 0 costs, to themselves. That’s the power of decentralized ownership. They would need to convince the other $HADES holders though.
💭 NFTs could revolutionize the ticket industry
Imagine this: you're a huge sports fan, and you just scored a season ticket to your favorite team's games. You've paid a big upfront fee and you're excited to attend every game this season. But what happens when you can't make it to a game? You're out of luck, and that expensive ticket goes to waste.
But what if I told you that blockchain technology could change all that? With NFTs on the blockchain, you can buy a season ticket as an NFT and have it stored safely and securely on the blockchain. Then, when the games come around, your ticket is a digital asset that can be easily verified as an entry to the stadium.
But here's the exciting part: if you can't make it to a game, you can sell your ticket as an NFT to someone who really wants it. And it can be sold for its true market value, not just the upfront fee you paid. Plus, the event organizer can take a cut of the sale price, so they benefit too.
And it's not just sports tickets - this blockchain-based ticketing system could revolutionize how we buy and sell tickets for all kinds of events, from concerts to theater shows to festivals
